How to spend a day at The Blue Bay in Milos, Greece
Where is The Blue Bay?
This spectacular spot very near Milos feels like nature decided to build a sparkling swimming pool and fill it with the bluest water in the Mediterranean. It’s so vibrant you’ll think it’s somehow being illuminated from below and definitely worth adding to your list of things to do in Milos, Greece.
While technically not on the island of Milos, The Blue Bay is actually located off the coast of Poliegos, a small neighboring island just a short boat ride from the port at Pollonia, Milos. The reflective white rock at the bottom of the bay creates a stunning effect making the water shine an electric blue.

How do you get to The Blue Bay?
To see The Blue Bay you’ll have to travel by boat as the area can only be accessed by sea. There’s no actual beach near the bay, but it’s still a very popular destination for visitors to anchor for a few hours and enjoy the crystal clear waters.
The most common way to visit The Blue Bay is to book a private boat charter that includes the bay as one of its stops. We chartered a boat through Salty Rides and chose the full-day option which included a visit to The Blue Bay and various other spots around Milos.
If you’re confident captaining your own vessel, you can also rent a boat yourself and jet over for a few hours. We saw a couple doing this when we visited but also noticed they had some trouble figuring out how to properly anchor their boat.

What is there to do at The Blue Bay?
There are a few things to do at The Blue Bay, but the main activity is to just sit back, relax and take in the view. Like Sarakiniko, this spot is some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Greece, so you’ll want to just stay awhile and enjoy your surroundings.
The Blue Bay is also the perfect spot for an afternoon swim. The water is crystal clear and calm. You can also snorkel, but don’t plan on seeing too much in the way of sea life as there’s mainly just small schools of fish, but this is true for much of Greece.
Another good option is to stop here and enjoy lunch on the boat. It’s a popular destination for boats to anchor, and you’ll probably even see some giant international superyachts making their way into the bay.

When’s the best time to visit The Blue Bay in Milos?
Like the rest of the Greek islands, summer is the best season to get the full experience at The Blue Bay. This is high season for Greek travel, but for good reason. The warm weather will have you ready to jump in the crystal blue water and then dry off in the heat of the sun. We traveled in September to avoid some of the crowds while still taking advantage of the gorgeous Mediterranean summer.
It’s also important to consider the time of day. The best time to visit The Blue Bay is around noon when the sun is high. The bright sunlight will make the vibrant blues of the water pop, which is what everyone travels here to see.

We absolutely love the island of Milos. Quaint fishing villages, crystal clear waters and stunning beaches make this one of our favorite spots in all of Greece. For more ideas, see all our posts on things to do in Milos, Greece.
